ENVIRONMENT AND RESOURCES

The research unit "Environment and Resources" conducts research on the economics of the environment, decarbonization, and resource demand and conservation. Our work is organized in three core research areas.
1. Climate and Energy: This area focuses on the evidence-based evaluation of climate policies in the energy, heating, and mobility transition.
2. Environmental and Resource Economics focuses on the efficient use of resources, such as water, fossil and non-fossil fuels, as well as non-energy raw materials.
3. Prosocial Behavior investigates the factors that influence sustainable behavior and other prosocial behaviors, such as donating money, organs and blood, and explores effective ways to promote them.
Much of our work relies on three household panels that we have established ourselves: the RWI Climate-Mobility Panel, the German Socio-Ecological Panel, and the German Heating and Housing Panel (GHHP). We also regularly conduct studies in collaboration with practice partners (e.g., energy suppliers, mobility providers, companies with innovative technologies, municipalities, and non-profit organizations), particularly in the case of field experiments.
