Concerns of persons with severe disabilities
Information from the Inclusion Officer
Concerns of the institute
Protecting the interests of severely disabled people and promoting their integration is an important concern for the institute, to which its management and staff are committed. RWI takes its responsibility seriously and employs severely disabled people.
When recruiting scientific and technical staff, RWI endeavors to recruit a large number of severely disabled people. Within the scope of available possibilities, the necessary conditions are being created or improved at the Institute. Given the structural conditions (buildings from the 1950s), it is particularly difficult to provide wheelchair users with unrestricted access to all parts of the Institute's buildings. However, we are endeavoring to achieve barrier-free access in both parts of the institute's building. For this reason, the concept of accessibility was implemented during the renovation work completed at the end of 2011. The institute's new website has also been designed with these aspects in mind.
By creating an open working environment that is accessible to people with disabilities, we want to contribute to the realization of the corresponding goals of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which has been ratified by Germany: "States Parties recognize the equal right of persons with disabilities to work; which includes the right to the opportunity to earn a living through work freely chosen or accepted in an open, inclusive, and accessible labor market and work environment. ..." (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Article 27 (1), Federal Law Gazette 2008 II 35).
