Heating and Housing

The ‘Heating and Housing’ research group investigates the social and economic challenges of the heat transition for private households. The focus is on empirical analysis of how households respond to policy measures in the building sector, what obstacles hinder energy-efficient behaviour and investment, and how climate protection instruments can be designed to be effective and socially balanced. A central basis for the work is the German Heating and Housing Panel established at the RWI. It provides unique data on adaptation behaviour, distributional effects, acceptance and social trade-offs of the heat transition and is being further developed in a targeted manner.
