The "Macroeconomics and Public Finance" Department bundles RWI research on macroeconomic and public finance issues. Its spectrum ranges from ongoing economic monitoring to analyses of tax reforms. The economic analyses are reflected in four annual economic forecasts and three NRW economic reports, the monthly RWI/ISL container turnover index, and participation in the "Joint Economic Forecast". In addition, there is research work on short-term and longer-term economic development. With the help of the RWI income tax microsimulation model and a sales tax model, revenue and distribution effects of tax reforms are analyzed with regard to public finances.
