Torsten Schmidt has been Head of the Research Unit "Macroeconomics and Public Finance” since 2020. He studied economics at the University of Göttingen and received a PhD from the University of Zurich in 2000. Since 2019, he has been an adjunct professor of empirical macroeconomics at Ruhr University Bochum. His research interests include national and international business cycles, analysis of medium-term macroeconomic development, and the economic effects of demographic change.
Torsten Schmidt regularly contributes to the joint economic forecast of the leading German economic research institutes and is responsible for the RWI business cycle reports and the container throughput index.
