Joint Project: CO2-Preis - Analysis of the short- and long-term effects of different CO2- pricing variants on society and the national economy/ Subproject: Analysis of acceptance and distribution aspects

The aim of the research project is to show the short- and long-term effects of different CO2 pricing variants on society and the economy in Germany. In this project, RWI is developing statements on the acceptance and distribution aspects of CO2 pricing for the heat and transport sectors. Empirical household data is used to investigate which factors influence the acceptance of CO2 pricing and how these interact with different CO2 pricing variants and different options for the use of revenue. Discrete choice experiments are used to determine individual preferences with regard to CO2 pricing and redistribution options. Furthermore, with regard to the distributional effects of the different pricing variants, the extent to which households adjust their energy consumption as a result of price changes is investigated using current household data and microsimulations. In particular, the distributional effects for certain socio-demographic groups are considered.
