Gerechte interregionale Verteilung von Kosten und Nutzen der Energiewende (GiVEn)

Werkstattbericht Gefördert durch das Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (BMWK)

As part of the joint project “Fair interregional distribution of the costs and benefits of the energy transition (GiVEn)” funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), a survey of around 7,000 people was conducted in spring 2024 to record the population's attitudes towards the energy transition and preferences regarding the spatial distribution of energy infrastructure facilities. An overwhelming majority of 92% of respondents are in favor of promoting the expansion of renewable energies, with photovoltaic systems on roofs receiving the greatest approval. At the same time, around two thirds of respondents believe that the energy transition is progressing too slowly to protect the climate. In addition, only a minority say that they feel disturbed by the proximity of a wind turbine. Nevertheless, many places offer compensation options for the construction of wind turbines, mostly for residents or communities within a 2.5 km radius of a wind turbine. When asked about support for these measures, the majority of respondents rated all measures as good, but a reduced electricity tariff was the most popular measure. On the other hand, fixed annual payments to residents or to the municipality were rejected the most and were rated as a bad measure by around 20% of respondents.
