Primary care physicians and nursing expert hand in hand – ANP Centers for securing the future of basic medical care in the region
The share of elderly people in rural areas is increasing. The resulting increasing demand for medical care is confronted with a decreasing number of primary care physicians in these areas. One way of meeting the demand is to introduce nursing experts. In this project, primary care physicians are supported by nursing experts who conduct regular home visits for elderly with chronic diseases. Scientific accompanying research, provided by RWI, evaluates the effects this new form of supply of medical care on, e.g., costs and patient well?being. Comprehensive evaluation of this concept allows to assess the use of nursing experts to improve medical care in rural areas.
