Friederike Hertweck, PhD, has been a researcher at RWI since October 2020. She received her MSc in Economics from the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and completed her doctorate at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in Italy on topics in the Economics of Higher Education. During her PhD, she visited the University of Bamberg and the University of Southampton. Friederike Hertweck is accredited by the Office for National Statistics to work with sensitive British individual data. She is a fellow of the Joachim Herz Foundation since 2022.

Her research concentrates on educational transitions and the institutional design of the higher education sector with a focus on how institutional settings affect equal opportunities. She works primarily empirically with administrative data from various European countries. In addition, she also collects data in field experiments in school and university contexts.
