How can the demand for skilled labour in the care sector be met? Measures to close the skills gap
Aim: This article examines the main challenges for the shortage of skilled workers in the care sector and measures to alleviate it, in particular immigration. Method: Based on analyses of employment statistics and an assessment of the recruitment potential of foreign skilled workers, the challenges and possible solutions are examined. Results: The care sector is facing a drastic shortage of skilled workers due to demographic change and the one-sided professional mobility of care workers. Immigration can help, but challenges such as recognition procedures and integration remain. Conclusion: Targeted recruitment and better integration of foreign nursing staff are essential to alleviate the shortage of skilled workers but should be accompanied by further measures.
