Länger leben, länger arbeiten: Warum die Rente JETZT Reformen braucht

In the 1950s and 1960s, life expectancy — that is, the average number of years a person aged 65 can expect to live — was around 14 years. Since around 1970, life expectancy has been rising steadily: at the turn of the millennium, it was around 18 years, and today it is close to 20 years. Forecasts by the Federal Statistical Office predict a “moderate increase” to just over 23 years by 2070 (see figure, bordered line, left scale). Since the statutory pension insurance (GRV) is there to provide financial security in old age, significantly more financial resources are therefore needed for each person in retirement.
