Fachkräfte gewinnen und halten

Wie Engpassbereiche attraktiver werden

The German labor market is characterized by an increasing shortage of skilled workers. Against this backdrop, this study aims to examine the factors that determine career changes into and out of occupations characterised by skills shortages. Factors that increase inflows or reduce outflows can reduce the shortage of skilled workers. The study covers both the entire German labor market and, in particular, three focus areas that are particularly affected by the shortage of skilled workers and that also play an important role for Germany's economy and society. These areas are crafts, information and communication technologies (ICT), and health and nursing care. The data underlying the study comes from the Federal Employment Agency's labor shortage analysis to identify shortage areas, administrative data on employees subject to social insurance contributions, and other sources on occupational characteristics such as wages and job satisfaction.
