Project

Investigation of international data innovations in labour market and social policy

The aim of this project is to identify and describe international examples of innovative data in labour market and social policy. In particular, data innovations are to be considered that could represent possible use cases for the German context in the future. The research covers the entire range of topics of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, i.e., from labour market and employment policy, including vocational training, to labour protection, labour law, social insurance, old-age security, social participation and inclusion.

The methodological approach of this project consists of the use findings from expert interviews, including an international research network, and a conceptual search of public institutions, data producers and research papers. The spectrum of relevant innovations includes procedures in the area of data generation, the linking and processing of data, as well as methods and technologies in the area of artificial intelligence and Big Data.

The insights gained will be summarized in a report that presents the most relevant innovations in detail. The results will be used to derive possible applications for Germany and to discuss potential hurdles in the implementation of such data innovations in Germany. The results of the project should lead to an improvement in the supply of data in research and administration, and increase the transparency of political decisions by better informing citizens.
