In July, the Container Throughput Index of RWI and ISL softened from 118.6 (revised June value) to 118.4 points. However, this is not a statistically significant decrease. The average amplitude of revision over the past years was 0.6 points; the June value was revised upwards by 0.5 points. All in all, the index has not shown any clear movement since three months now.

In June, the RWI/ISL Container Throughput Index declined once more, albeit by a small amount. From a (revised) 118.2 points the index softened to 118.1 points. The index has now been falling since February 2015. The flash estimate for June is based on data for 41 ports, which combined account for almost 73% of the total index volume.

The German economy is experiencing a strong upturn driven by unexpected expansive impulses, especially the falling oil price and the sharp depreciation of the euro. Gross domestic product is expected to increase by 2.1 percent this year. The 68 percent projection interval ranges from 1.1 percent to 2.8 percent. Consumption is the driving force behind the upturn.

During February, the RWI/ISL Container Throughput Index showed a robust increase from 123.1 points in January (unchanged) to 126.3 points. The flash estimate for February is based on handling data of 38 ports, which account for a combined 70 percent of the entire index.
