Emmanuel is a Researcher at RWI Essen in the Economic Policy Lab on Climate Change, Development and Migration.
His research interests rotate arounnd impact evaluation of development interventions with a focus on agricultural interventions, social protection (health insurance policies and cash transfers). He is also interested in labour markets through studying the impacts of business training programmes on firms and entrepreneurs. Other questions in education and skills improvement also remain of interest. He has conducted research in countries including Uganda, Rwanda,Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Namibia among others. His research has been published in journals such as World Development, Agricultural Economics, Social Science and Medicine, BMJ Global Health among others.
Emmanuel studied Development Economics (Makerere University), International Development (IDS Sussex) and completed his PhD in Agricultural and Development Economics from the University of Bonn. Previously, he was associated with the German Institute for Development and Sustainability (IDOS, formerly, German Development Institute) and the Institute for Food and Resource Economics at the University of Bonn.
