Essays in Regional Economics

Dissertation, Fakultät für Wirtschaftswissenschaft

This dissertation analyses regional economic issues using applied microeconometric methods. I analyse both the effects of regional disparities and the way in which certain events (e.g. a reform) lead to regional disparities. Regional disparities can manifest themselves in many dimensions. In this thesis, I examine how the regionally heterogeneous immigration of refugees influences election results, property prices and the composition of the population. Another chapter shows how transition rates to secondary school after the corona pandemic differ between primary schools in neighbourhoods with different income levels. I also analyse the regional employment effects of the Hartz reform.
