Diskriminierung an Schulen in Deutschland: Werden Schüler:innen mit Migrationshintergrund schlechter bewertet?

— We investigate the extent to which discrimination in grading is an explanatory factor for the educational disadvantages of ethnic minority students. — Our analyses show no evidence of discrimination against ethnic minority students in terms of grading. Rather, they receive better grades on average than their performance in anonymously assessed standardized tests would suggest. — Our results suggest that teachers tend to take into account initial disadvantages and try to compensate for these by giving slightly more positive grades. — If positive grading biases are the result of lower expectations for these students, this can have a detrimental effect on the skill development of the students concerned.
