Die Selfmanagement-Assessment-Skala (SMASc): Validierung und klinische Anwendbarkeit eines Instruments zur Erfassung des Unterstützungsbedarfs chronisch kranker Menschen im deutschen Kontext
Demographic change is leading to an increasing demand for care, while the shortage of care workers is posing major challenges for the healthcare system. One strategy for addressing this challenge is to promote self-management among people with chronic illnesses. The Self-Management Assessment Scale (SMASc) enables the systematic assessment of self-management skills but has not yet been comprehensively validated for the German context. By specifically identifying individual strengths and support needs, the scale can contribute not only to the assessment but also to the personalised promotion of self-management skills in care. This study examines the factorial structure and psychometric properties of the SMASc using a sample of 493 older people in Germany. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses confirm a multidimensional structure of the instrument with good to very good fit indices. The results suggest that the SMASc is a suitable instrument for assessing and promoting self-management in clinical practice.
