Den Strukturwandel meistern

Jahresgutachten 2019/20

The prolonged economic upswing in Germany has come to an end. This reflects the global economic slowdown as well as a number of structural factors that may be slowing growth. Furthermore, there are considerable risks to future growth: an escalation of the current trade disputes in particular could be very damaging to Germany’s export-driven economy. Economic prospects are moderate, while structural change is imminent, arising especially from technological advances due to digitalisation and the need for a transition to a new climate policy. Against this background, a key objective of economic policy should be to strengthen the growth potential of the German economy.
