Potential output growth of the German economy is expected to decline further in the coming years. This is in particular due to demographic developments. The aging of the population is likely to mean that the number of persons at working-age and the potential labor volume will peak and decline in the further course of the projection period up to the year 2028. At the same time, the economic recovery in the coming years is expected to be rather weak. Consequently, it will take some time for the currently negative output gap to close.
