Philipp Markus joined the FDZ Ruhr at RWI as a Postdoc in 2023. He previously studied economics in Bonn (B.Sc.) and Cologne (M.Sc.) and earned dotocal degree as part of the graduate programs RGS Econ and RTG 2484 Regional Disparities and Economic Policy at the University of Duisburg-Essen under the supervision of Prof. Tobias Seidel. He also gained previous work experience in a private research and consulting firm and the Tanzanian Trade Development Authority (TanTrade).
Philipp's research interests focus on urban and regional economics,
inequality, education, and migration. In his dissertation he measured
the value of local amenities in the context of regional disparities, as
well as the effect of access to tertiary education institutions on
migration and marriage decisions of young adults.
