Medical service delivery in hospitals faces a variety of challenges in the 2020s. The structure of the hospital landscape, increasing specialization and a strong interest in quality are gaining in importance. At the same time, resources are becoming scarcer, especially on the part of the federal states in terms of investment funding. The competence area “Health” analyzes the economic situation and quality of hospitals. In addition, federal and state investment programs are evaluated in order to achieve structural changes and to find out what role political influences play in the allocation of funds.
