The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has tested the performance of the health care system, requiring analysis of the impact of the pandemic on market actors and service delivery. With the onset of the pandemic, hospitals were required to hold capacity open for corona patients and postpone elective procedures beginning in March 2020. Hospitals received compensation payments for the hospital beds that were kept free. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Health, the competence area “Health” analyzes the impact of the compensation payments on hospitals' revenue situation.
