Helfen Ernährungstipps und Informationen über die Klimawirkungen des Fleischkonsums, diesen zu verringern? Experimentelle Evidenz für Deutschland
Meat consumption is associated with numerous negative effects that many people are unaware of. In this article, Jana Eßer, Daniela Flörchinger, Manuel Frondel and Julia Wittmann examine the effectiveness of information interventions to reduce meat consumption, which were embedded in a panel survey of around 2,100 participants. The interventions consisted of three newsletters that were sent by email to participants after the survey, with the exception of the control group. The three newsletters contained either information on the environmental impact of meat, tips and recipes for reducing meat consumption, or a combination of both. Respondents were asked to report their meat consumption for the previous four weeks at the beginning of the study and shortly after the third newsletter was sent. The empirical results suggest that information on the environmental impact of meat consumption and nutritional tips had no significant short-term effect on meat consumption, not even on the stated intention to reduce it.
