Implementation review of the economic and structural programme in Rheinisches Revier
In view of the phase-out of lignite-fired power generation, the common goal of the Federal Government, the North Rhine-Westphalian state government and stakeholders in Rheinisches Revier is to shape structural change and create new prospects for the region. To this end, the Federal Government is providing structural aid of up to 40 billion euros to the German lignite mining areas altogether. The share for the Rheinisches Revier amounts to up to 14.8 billion, spread over three funding periods: 2020 to 2026, 2027 to 2032 and 2033 to 2038. The evaluation team monitors and evaluates the structural policy measures implemented in Rheinisches Revier between 2020 and 2026 (first funding period) and develops policy recommendations for the forthcoming funding periods. In addition to the main evaluation reports the team prepares specifric reports on policy implementation, achievement of objectives and labour market outcomes.
