Erarbeitung aktueller vergleichender Strukturdaten für die deutschen Braunkohleregionen

The lignite regions in Germany are at the centre of attention in terms of both climate protection and structural change. With the ‘Climate Protection Plan 2050’, it was decided to set up a commission on ‘Growth, Structural Change and Regional Development’, which will begin its work at the start of 2018. One of the commission's tasks is to assess developments in the lignite regions and develop instruments that will help to make structural change as socially acceptable as possible. Against this background, the aim of the study is to prepare the work of the Commission. To this end, key socio-economic indicators for the German lignite regions will be quantified, categorised and condensed into regional profiles that will enable an assessment of the development, current situation and potential of the regions. Further structural change will then be organised on this basis.
