Social Sustainability Barometer

A large majority of citizens support the German energy transition. However, the energy transition encompasses a variety of facets that determine support. The “Social Sustainability Barometer” provides a comprehensive database on a wide range of issues relating to the energy transition, which was collected in three survey waves from 2017 to 2019 among more than 6,000 household. The three surveys were conducted annually between June 2017 and November 2019. As the project has been completed, no further surveys will follow. In all three waves, data was collected on attitudes towards renewable energy and the implementation of the energy transition. Participants were also asked to what extent they are involved in the energy transition and how they participate. Wave 1 and wave 3 also contain a section on the electricity bill survey. In addition, each wave contained a stated-choice experiment, e.g. on willingness to pay (WTP) for green energy, the EU energy label and support for a carbon tax.
The FDZ Ruhr makes the data from the “Social Sustainability Barometer” available to researchers as a Scientific Use File (SUF).
The data sets are available free of charge for scientific purposes as a Scientific Use File (SUF) Off-site. For information on data access, please follow this link.
