The energy and climate policy framework continues to exert significant pressure for change in the area of residential heating and energy efficiency measures in residential buildings. The recent escalation in the Middle East has once again highlighted the vulnerability of global energy markets and brought into focus the risks of continued dependence on fossil fuels. At the same time, the regulatory framework for decarbonizing the building sector in Germany is undergoing change. The fifth wave of the German Heating and Housing Panel, conducted in the fall of 2025, provides key findings on the current status of the heating transition in the residential building sector.
