COGNITIVE HEALTH

Maintaining cognitive function in older age is key for an independent life. Within the Research Unit, we investigate the determinants of cognitive decline as well as the impact of key life decisions and socioeconomic factors on mental health. Using micro-econometric methods, we analyze how education, retirement, and health shocks influence cognitive development in the long term. We place a particular focus on the extent to which education can compensate for genetic endowment. In one project, we examine the short- and long-term effects of retirement on cognitive health.
