Leibniz ScienceCampi "Skills over the Lifecycle"
The Skills Campus brings together research on cognitive and socio-emotional skills and translates this into targeted initiatives for the Ruhr region.
Cognitive skills such as reading and numeracy, as well as socio-emotional skills such as self-regulation and empathy, play a key role in determining how people manage financially and how satisfied they are with their lives. Promoting these skills is therefore considered one of the most effective ways to reduce inequality and foster economic upward mobility.
Our interdisciplinary team, drawing on expertise in economics and psychology, pursues two objectives: cutting-edge research at an international level and active engagement in the Ruhr region. Particular attention is paid to groups that are often under-represented in the education system, such as first-generation students and students from ethnic minorities.Publications
