Stromverbrauch privater Haushalte in Deutschland – Eine ökonometrische Analyse

Using data on the electricity consumption of 2 100 German households and their endowment with electrical appliances originating from a survey conducted in 2014, this article estimates an econometric model that explains the individual households’ electricity consumption on the basis of their appliance endowment, rather than socioeconomic household attributes. Our estimation results for frequently used appliances, such as refrigerators, washing machines and TV sets, fit well to those values that are published by information portals. These comparisons also show that there are substantial saving potentials in the residential sector. All in all, our analysis demonstrates that there is a huge heterogeneity in the electricity consumption of private households.
