Perspektiven der Internet-Wirtschaft

The article examines the perspectives of the Internet economy which is one of the most important fields of application of the so-called "new economy". Its dynamic trend was linked with the upswing of the technology stock exchanges; the burst of the speculative bubble led finally to a decline in capital spending in the Internet infrastructure and, as a consequence of that, to a slump in the Internet economy as well. Nevertheless, the potentials of the Internet economy have by no means been exhausted and the propensity to invest in this field may increase significantly again. In this case, the Internet will develop positive overall economic effects in the form of cost reductions and increases in productivity. The commercial utilisation of the Internet will not likely be borne by the former pioneers, but mainly by enterprises of the "old economy".
