Weiterhin gute Konjunktur

The German economy is still in a good shape. The upswing continues to be driven by domestic demand. In particular investment, which has been weak hitherto, has gained momentum. In addition, also net exports contribute to the expansion of gross domestic product (GDP). We expect GDP to grow by 1.6% in 2017 (working day adjusted 1.8%), which means an upward revision of 0.3 percentage points compared to our forecast published in March. For 2018 GDP growth of 1.8% is projected. Inflation will reach 1.6% in the current and the next year, respectively. The situation on the labor market is expected to improve further. The unemployment rate will decrease to 5.7% in 2017 and 5.5% in 2018. Despite the fiscal stance being slightly expansionary, the fiscal budget continues to be in surplus, which could reach 0.7% relative to GDP in this year and 0.8% next year.
