Neuberechnung des RWI-ISL Containerumschlag-Index: Der Einfluss des chinesischen Neujahrsfestes
The RWI/ISL Container throughput-Index is a well proven early indicator of world trade. The results for January and February, however, are sometimes difficult to interpret, because Chinese ports influence the indicator strongly, but the Census X12 method applied hitherto did not offer the possibility to separate the seasonal influence of Chinese New Year. Here a re-calculation of the index is presented that is based on the Census X13 method, which takes into account Chinese New Year. All in all the new index dies not deviate substantially from the old version. The differences are more pronounced in years in which New Year celebrations start late.
