70 Jahre RWI Konjunkturberichte: Aus der Frühzeit der Konjunkturforschung am RWI
Exactly seventy years ago the first issue of the RWI Konjunkturberichte has been published. This paper looks at the first decade of the journal. It shows, that the analyses could draw on a surprisingly large and up to date set of indicators. National accounts, however, today's backbone of business cycle analyses, entered the reports only piecemeal. As RWI is located in the Ruhr area, its reports very much focused on the energy markets and the iron and steel sector. Elaborations on the international economy, on the other hand, were missing in the early years. Statements about the future are given in a qualitative way only. RWI published its first forecast specified in numbers in the late 1960s. The statements on economic policy are undogmatic and open in many directions.
