The RWI/ISL Container Throughput Index increased slightly from a revised 116.5 to 117.0. At the same time, the values of August and September were revised upwards slightly and now points towards an accelerating growth of international merchandise exchange. Compared with the multi-annual average, the gains are still small.

The sideward movement of world trade observed since early 2013 continued in September, as evidenced by the latest RWI/ISL Container Throughput Index. With 116.2 points, the September index exactly matches last year’s value.

According to the August RWI/ISL Container Throughput Index, international merchandise trade continued the sideward movement observed since the beginning of the year. The Index deteriorated slightly from a corrected 116.1 in July to 116.0. Since seven months now the index is stuck at a more or less unchanged level.
