Infrastructure is a key prerequisite for economic development, and the design of infrastructure policy has a considerable impact on CO2 emissions in the future. People and firms can only thrive if transportation and mobility, electricity and water supplies are guaranteed. At the same time, investments in new infrastructure today set the course for the emission paths of the next decades. We therefore examine the costs and benefits of infrastructure investments in the Global South and their importance for climate policy.
