Wealth inequality and social mobility in industrializing England
The
industrial revolution in the 18th century led to great prosperity in
England, however, contemporaneous reductions in living standards for poorer
people and increases in inequality have also been documented. Using novel individual
level and geo-coded wealth data, this project reexamines wealth inequality and
social mobility between 1670 and 1850 in England to advance our understanding
about the distributional effects of the Industrial Revolution.
