Human-Centric Energy Districts: Smart Value Generation by Building Efficiency and Energy Justice for Sustainable Living

Smart-BEEjS is a consortium of eight universities and research centers, supported by 16 non-academic entities, in the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. It is part of the Innovative Training Network of the EU Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions and entails recruiting 15 PhD researchers who will analyze the role of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs). PEDs are defined as local developments and networks of homes, workplaces and traffic systems that generate more energy than is consumed, which is achieved through a combination of reduced energy usage and the local generation of renewable energy. The project will train the 15 students using an innovative doctoral training program that incorporates deep training in their individual subjects but also interdisciplinary training. In addition, they will have the opportunity to work through a collaborative research program with a multitude of stakeholders necessary for PEDs, such as policymakers, prosumers, etc.
